The 2nd Pokethon!
If the video stream or the chatroom don't load for you, pay the folks at Adobe a visit and update your flash player.

Marathon Description:
In April of 2009, ExtraLives.org first came online. We promised to regularly broadcast video gaming Marathons in order to raise money for various charities. Within the course of a year, we've held five full length Marathons (plus a round of Minithons!), adding up to hundreds of hours of gaming and nearly $27,000 raised for various charities.

To honor our one-year anniversary, we'll be revisiting our first Marathon-- the Pokemon Marathon!

Just as was the case a year ago, we'll be split into teams with two games being played simultaneously (for example, one team plays Gold while the other plays Silver). The broadcast is formatted as a race with each team vying to complete their set of games first.

We'll be playing through a bunch of Pok
émon games, including...
  • Pokémon Red
  • Pokémon Green (lovingly "translated" from it's original Japanese)
  • Pokémon Trading Card Game (on the Game Boy)
  • Pokémon Gold
  • Pokémon Silver
  • Hey You, Pikachu!
  • Pokémon Snap
  • Pokémon Ruby
  • Pokémon Sapphire
Plus a few bonus games like...
  • Assorted bootlegged Pokémon games
  • The Pokémon Trading Card Game... with real cards!
All the money raised will go to the Free the Children, a charity that provides clean water, healthcare, food and education to children in developing nations!

Why Pokémon? Again?
The first Pokémon Marathon still remains our favorite Marathon and we'd love to revisit it as it lasted a mere 40 hours-- at least 50% shorter than the average Marathon.

Everyone knows (and maybe even loves) Pokémon and we all have fond memories growing up with the games. The games are easy to play and have a lot of different ways they can be played through.

Plus, we feel it allows for us to involve the viewers in as many ways as possible including the naming of our Pokémon and battling against us online.

We get the chance to battle you?
Yes! People who donate $20 or more will have the opportunity to be selected to battle us live online during the Marathon!

We have set aside at least five timeslots dedicated to battling via wi-fi. Additional ones may be added. For now, wi-fi battles will take place after...

  • The Pokémon Red and Green race
  • The Pokémon Trading Card Game
  • The Pokémon Gold and Silver race
  • Pokémon Snap
  • The Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire race
If you're looking to battle us, be sure to stick around until the ends of those games. There's no way to tell what times exactly the battles will occur so check back regularly!

In order to be considered for battling, you must leave us your Friend Code and the name of the corresponding game. This can be done by leaving us a ChipIn comment following the donation. This is done through the following process:

Once you donate, you should be redirected to a page that presents you with a few options. Click the one circled in red to be brought to a page where you can leave your comment.

Once that is done, leave your comment here. Be sure to include...
  • The name of the game the code is for
  • The Friend Code itself
One thing to note: Although it may say so, your comment is not publicly viewable-- only we will be able to see it.

If you accidentially forget to do this after donating, no worries-- just send me an email at Tim@ExtraLives.org with the time and date of your donation, as well as the amount and your Friend Code and we'll be sure to add you.

One last thing! Be sure to add our various Friend Codes before the battle! These include...
  • Tim's SoulSilver: 3094-9573-3776
  • Jason's HeartGold: 3352-6351-2265
  • American Steve's HeartGold: 3309-7057-0597
Be sure to add the all if you're looking to battle us!

What's the criteria for completion?
For Pokémon Red and Green, the game is finished once we've beaten the Elite Four.

Pokémon Gold and Silver are done once Red in Mt. Silver is defeated.

We consider Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire to be complete once we defeat the Elite Four.

The Pokémon Trading Card game is done once the four Grand Masters are beaten.

Pokémon Snap is done once we've taken pictures of all of the Pokémon.

The voice recognition in Hey You, Pikachu! has been giving us issues lately and will likely cause problems with completing the game. As for the various bootlegged games-- we'll try our best to get as far as we can depending on the difficulty and stability of the games.

What system will you play the games on?
All of the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance Pokémon games will be played on the GameCube's Game Boy Player. Pokémon Snap and Hey You Pikachu! will be played on the Nintendo 64.

I want to watch, but I'll be away. What do I do?!
Provided there are no unforeseen technical issues, we'll be recording the entire Marathon so you can re-watch it whenever you'd like!

Is there going to be a raffle?
Yes! I am in the process of getting some ExtraLives.org T-shirts printed up to raffle off. We will be raffling five of these shirts during the Marathon and one shirt will be reserved for the highest donor, making a total of six shirts we're giving away.

But wait, there's more! Marathon regular Hinkles recently took a trip to Japan and brought back some neat Pok
émon items for us to give away to donors, including a Celebi plushie and two Pokémon books (one of which being an activity book and the other being about Diamond and Pearl, including a full Pokédex for all of the Pokémon currently in existence). A picture of the prize is below:

Unlike the past Marathons, we will not be raffling off all of the items at once. Instead, we will raffle off a T-shirt approximately every 12 hours. The items donated by Hinkles will be the last things to be raffled off to one lucky winner!

Just like the previous Marathons, every $5 donation counts for one entry in the raffle. Each $5 entry will enter the donor in every raffle we have throughout the course of this Marathon. Donations made to battle us online via wi-fi will also count for raffle entries.

You didn't have a banner contest-- how will I get free entries into the raffle?!
Well, throughout the Marathon we'll be having various trivia contests where the first five people to email the correct answer to Contest@ExtraLives.org will receive an entry in the raffle. We'll also hold some fan-art contests for free raffle entries, so be sure to tune in for more details!
